davidtesch asked: I've read that you used a Mesa Mark IIC+ on Flying in a Blue Dream... Was it just on the song or the whole album? I ask cuz I love the voicing you get out of your tone in the beginning of part 2 of the Bells of Lal.. When I'm dialing my tone if it feels similar then I know I'm in the ballpark. I use that and the riff from Crystal Planet... those are my tone-testers :)

On that song I was using a silver face Fender Pro Reverb amp with a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, and put an AKG C12-A microphone up close to the grill.

whenloveovercomespower asked: Hey Joe! Been a big fan but have unfortunately never had the chance to see you live! (Sad times, I know) Just wondering if there's any chance that you'll be heading back to anywhere in Scotland soon? (P.S I play guitar too and I know it's clichéd and you've heard it loads but you are one of the main reasons why I started playing guitar; after hearing "Made Of tears" I knew I had to play!) Anyway, hopefully you'll get a chance to read this - Thank you for making such great music over the years :D

Thank you. ”Made of Tears” is a very cathartic piece for me to play. I hope to play in Scotland sometime next summer.

misterguiunhio asked: Hi Joe. Greetings from Mexico City. I was wondering why, besides "Cool #9", you hardly play songs from "Joe Satriani" album. For me, it is your best work to date.. but I have a hunch that you don't think the same. What do you think about that album?

Thank you. That album is very special to me. I should play those songs live more often.

johnorrfranklin asked: The music industry is a vastly different landscape today than it was when you were first starting out. What advice could you give an independent artist trying to get things started today? Thanks Joe! ;)

get as much experience playing in front of people as you can. any gig will do.

ubertone asked: If you could have (keep) only one electric guitar, which one would it be, and why? For me, it is an early 90s ruby-red Ibanez SV470 loaded with a set of SD pickups (Jazz/Custom 5/JB). It plays wonderfully and the HBs are coil-tapped so it can do a decent beefed-up strat sound. Of course, I am sure I don't have quite the collection you do... :)

robertlem asked: Big fan, Joe! Thanks for this opportunity. I've been a guitarist for many years & have noticed that when I practise sitting/standing at home or band rehearsals, I can pick with some facility at what I consider an impressive enough speed with a great deal of accuracy. But when I perform live onstage, nervous or relaxed, I lose 50-70% of that speed/accuracy and am forced to play within a much safer technical zone. Have you ever experienced this and what can you recommend to remedy the problem? Bob

good question. try not to psyche yourself out when performing…
